A 900 m² immersive and interactive space entirely dedicated to the world of Belgian fries and
their star ingredient: the potato.
Frietmuseum Brussels is a fun, educational and tasty museum that takes visitors on a
journey through the history, culture and traditions of this emblematic Belgian dish. With over
1,600 exhibits, old posters, interactive games, films and testimonials from fry makers, you
can discover not only the history of the potato, but also the evolution of fries over time, and
the secrets of perfect cooking.
Spread over three floors, the audio tour (available in 11 languages) starts in Peru, the origin
country of the potato, before taking you on a world tour tracing the history of potato
cultivation in South America and Europe.
Halfway, you'll reach Frietland, an area devoted entirely to Belgian fries. Here, traditions,
folklore and tasty anecdotes reveal the art of Belgian fries. The visit ends with a tasting of
real Belgian fries, cooked according to the rules of the art. In exchange for your audio guide,
you'll receive a cone of fries cooked either in typical Belgian beef fat or in vegetable oil.
Visitors can immortalise their visit by taking a photo of themselves in a fries shop, in the
middle of a potato harvest or next to XXL specialities.
Whether you're a lover of gastronomy, curious about history or simply fond of good fries, the
Frietmuseum in Brussels is a must-see destination. It celebrates a symbol of Belgian culture
and reminds us that behind every crispy fries lies a fascinating story!
