Neder-Over-Heebeek is a former commune that became part of the City of Brussels in 1921, at the same time as Haren and Laeken. Take a walk through this village-style part of the city, with its mix of residential areas and shopping zones, green spaces, remains of its rural past and industrial sites.
‘Rue François Vekemans’, the main shopping street of Neder-Over-Heembeek, leads to ‘Place Peter Benoît’, named in memory of the Belgian composer and music teacher. It’s also overlooked by the unusual Saints-Pierre et Paul church.
Those in search of a bit of greenery will not be disappointed: the Ferme Nos Pilifs, which is only a short walk away, is open every day, free of charge and suitable for all ages.
Escape to this urban farm that spreads out over five hectares and learn about the latest eco-gardening techniques and how to look after farm animals, pick up some local products, or just go there for a stroll.
