Brussels: the ultimate spot for comic book, comic, and manga fans!

If you love comic books, then Brussels is definitely the comic book capital, and the downtown area its headquarters. Let me tell you about this trip I made, a stroll through the cobblestone alleys and shop windows filled with comic books, comics, and manga where every corner is a new panel to explore.

Places not to be missed

First stop, La Maison de la Bande Dessinée. A magical place where all styles and eras of comic books intersect. From American comics to Japanese manga, not forgetting our local treasures, you can find everything there, even rare editions of Tintin in improbable languages. I spent hours browsing the shelves, looking for new gems for my collection.

Next, a stop at Brüsel on the pedestrian zone. With its art gallery-like ambiance, this bookstore is a meeting place for all comic book enthusiasts. It’s a bit like a secret hideout where you can chat with authors, discover new works, and enrich your library. Just next door (I told you it was the headquarters), I made a stop at Multi BD, a true space open to diversity, where comic books, mangas, manhwas, and comics conjugate in all tenses, in French or original versions. I took the opportunity to greet Captain Haddock and his friends next door at Moule à Gaufres. By the way, his friend Tintin is honored in a shop entirely dedicated to him, on the corner of the Grand Place.

On the hunt for hidden treasures

Another must-visit spot: Le Dépôt, with its second-hand comic books, forgotten treasures, and editions that are impossible to find elsewhere. What I love here is the feeling of rummaging through an attic full of wonders, with the help of a passionate team always ready to share their discoveries. I almost found a rare edition of my dreams there! And still in second-hand, I discovered Feniksu, THE haven for manga and Pokemon card fans!

Exploration of the Manga Temples

Personally, I don’t know much about the world of manga, but it seems that Dong-Co, Manga Brussels, Super Dragon Toys, Utopia, Feniksu, and Warudo are must-visits. So I stepped through their doors. Between collectible figurines, mangas, and limited editions, these shops are true temples for fans of Japanese culture. I must admit that I could appreciate the ambiance, that little something that makes you feel like you’re traveling the world and through time without leaving the city. I did feel a bit lonely in the midst of all the fans I encountered there, but I saw the passion on all their faces, it was an incredible experience.

A well-deserved break

After so many adventures, a break is in order, and what better than Comics & Drinks? A bookstore-café where you can have a drink while exploring the infinite world of comic books. I had a very pleasant time there, surrounded by enthusiasts, exchanging reading tips and unexpected discoveries. And then I satisfied my curiosity at the Librairie Manga Café, where I bought some Japanese spices… and of course, yuzu.

A graphic adventure in the open air

Throughout my journey, I let myself be transported into a world where walls come to life! The comic book mural trail is an adventure in itself. Imagine entire facades dressed with Tintin, Spirou, Lucky Luke, and many other heroes. Walking these streets is a bit like flipping through a giant open-air comic book!

A beautiful ending: immersion in the comic book museum

I ended my day beautifully at the Comic Book Museum – yes, Brussels even has its own museum dedicated to comics! After touring the exhibitions, I stopped by Slumberland, at the entrance of the museum. What I love about this bookstore is the warm welcome from the passionate staff who work there. It makes you want to stay, chat, and most importantly… leave with your arms full!

And you, when are you coming?

Believe me, after such a stroll, you’ll only want to come back to discover even more!

Comic Strip Festival: free shuttles

And if you go to the Comic Strip Festival this weekend, the City of Brussels has provided free shuttles between Tour and Taxis and the city center (near the Bourse). Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8, every 30 minutes between 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM.
